About Us

Welcome to Frugal Reality,  I’m Heather Calhoun the mom and mastermind behind the scenes.   I’m so glad you’re here!  Let me give you a little background on the site and I.

About Heather:

I am a married, stay at home mom of two wonderfully entertaining children under the age of 6.  My Prince Charming and I have been married for the better part of forever and even though we both think we know it all, this page turning novel has only begun!    We live in one of the most beautiful states in our great country, Texas.  Our family is just outside of Houston were we can enjoy a mixture of city and country life.

I am a Christian saved by the grace of God.  Everthing I do and everything we’ve been blessed with is all thanks to Him.  It’s because of Him and the support of my wonderful readers, like you, that I’m able to stay at home and run this blog to help you save money!

I starting couponing when my husband was active in the Marine Corp.  A passion born out of nessecity has now become career!  How many people can say they do what they love for a living?   There is a difference in “living and living well”, I’m choosing to live well but for way less!

About Frugal Reality:

I began blogging in early 2009 with out a clue of what I was doing.  In fact for the first year I didn’t even know this was something you could actually get paid for.  The purpose of Frugal Reality is to bring you deals to save you money on everything from groceries to designer jeans to family activities.  I want you to be able to save where you can so you can spend where you want.

You won’t read about roman noodle budgets around here.  I do like nice things and I will buy them, BUT it’s because I cut cost on things that don’t matter as much to me.  If you like nice things and saving money then this is the place for you!

If you ever have a question, comment, or suggestion please feel free to contact me either via email or leave a comment on the site.  heather (at) frugalreality (dot) com

Are you in the Houston area?

I saw where you submitted the HEB deals of the week on money saving mom. You state that you can use their store coupon plus a newspaper coupon. I have tried this before and told it was not allowed and that they would not except my coupons at all if I tried it again. I did not know if the clerk was just being a pain or if this is there policy all over Texas. I am in the Ft Hood area so I don’t know if that would matter.

The rules are supposed to be this: IF the coupon is marked B or S it’s considered a STORE coupon allowing for you to stack with a regualr MFG coupon. However, you CAN NOT use a coupon on the FREE item in a combo deal. i.e. Buy Cascade Get Dawn Free (yellow coupon marked M, S or B) you can use a MFG coupon on the Cascade and nothing else on the Dawn. If this same yellow coupon is marked S or B you can use a MFG coupon on the Cascade. Make sense? You can print the coupon policy from H-E-B’s website and keep in your binder if you feel there will be an issue. Don’t be afraid to ask for the manager either. Hope this helps!

I just came across your blog through money saving mom. I was happy to find your HEB deals of the weak, my favorite store. I just moved to the Houston area from Corpus Christi.
I recently had the same problem as maggie, so i came home and looked up there coupon policy. I loaded it onto my phone and went back today ready to ask for a manager this time. Instead I had a really nice, laid back clerk who just put all the coupons through. I will keep the coupon policy on my phone though for the future. Thanks for posting the deals of the weak it really saves me time. One i found that I’m sure you’ll see, Is L.A. looks hair gel 20oz is 2.17 with a $1 store coupon and in redplum I found a $1 coupon.

Hi Heather,
I’m in the spring area and I’m trying to attendone of your classes. 1. When will you hold another class 2. What is the fee to attend your class 3. Where are you located in houston.

Please let me know asap, I’m very interested in a class. I’ve been doing the coupon thing for about a month and I’m not sure if I’m doing it right.
