One service I don’t like paying for is carpet cleaning. Yea they do a great job but the price tag, smell it leaves until dry and fact you have to stay off the floor pretty much all day just exhaust me. All I really need is a good spot cleaner to keep up the cleanliness.
So, you can imagine while piddling around on Pinterest I found something. The Miracle Carpet Stan Remover.
One Good Thing has a great how to for making and doing this DIY Cleaning Process. We just had our carpets cleaned so m=now I’m just waiting for a chance to try this out.

Stain release is one laundry item I tend to spend more money on than I want too. With 2 kids under 6 and a husband who spend a lot of time out doors, we have all sorts of fun stains show up. I was really excited to see this Homemade Miracle Cleaner post by Modern Day Moms.
One of my favorite things about this recipe is it’s so stinky simple. Grab the 2 ingredients, mix together and apply. Does it get any easier than that? I finished my laundry yesterday so now I’m just waiting for a stain so I can try this out!
What You’ll Need:
- 1 part Dawn Dishwashing Liquid (the original blue kind)
- 2 parts Hydrogen Peroxide
How To Do It:
- Mix together and pour directly on the stain.

One of the items I’m always trying to get an awesome deal on is my Downy Fabric Softener. I’ve tried the other brands but just LOVE the smell of Downy. After findig this DIY project from The Frugal Girls on Pinterest, I may just give it a whirl.
Items You Need:
- 6 cups HOT water
- 3 cups white vinegar
- 2 cups Suave Refreshing Waterfall Conditioner {or other favorite scent}
How To Do It:
- Mix conditioner & hot water well, until conditioner is dissolved completely.
- Add the vinegar, and mix well.
- Store in a large container {empty fabric softener container, empty large vinegar bottle, etc}
- Pour into a downy ball… or use approx. 2 tbsp. in the fabric softener spot in your laundry machine… then wash!

One of the chores I hate the most is cleaning the bathrooms. They just gross me out no matter how dirty or clean they are. The least amount of time I spend in there the better. Martha Stewart has this little concoction for a shower & tub scrub that’s supposed to be awesome.
Here’s what you need:
- Add one teaspoon of liquid soap.
- Several drops of an antibacterial essential oil (such as tea tree, eucalyptus, rosemary, or peppermint).
- One cup of baking soda.
- Add just enough water to form a paste, and use it with a sponge or brush to scour bathtub surfaces.

Like Febreze? Here’s another great fake-it recipe from Fake it Frugal. She claims it’s actually better than the real deal. I’m not a huge Febreze fan so I don’t plan on making this one but thought you guys might enjoy it.
Here’s what you need:
1/8 Cup of Your Favorite Fabric Softener
2 Tablespoons Baking Soda
Hot Tap Water – To Fill the Bottle to the Top
This should run you about $0.15 per bottle!
