DIY Kids

Nifty Mom has come up with this great Mother’s Day DIY Kids project.   This project is geared towards the smaller givers but you really could do a “garden of hand flowers” if you wanted to include all of the children no matter what age.  I’m going to use this for our craft in my pre-k/kinder Sunday School Class.

What You’ll Need:

  • washable finger paints
  • construction paper
  • paper plates
  • hand wipes or sink

How To Do It:

  1. pour small amounts of desired colors on separate paper plates
  2. “stamp” child’s hand in paint and then  on paper
  3. clean hand and use indue finger to finish flower stem and grass
  4. use paint marker or finger to write Happy Mother’s Day  and name/date
  5. clean up

DIY Kid Crafts: Homemade Flubber

by Heather on March 28, 2012

Frugal Fun Challenge has made this great DIY Kids project for making your own flubber.  Does anyone remember that movie with Robin Williams?  This is a more flexible, gigglier, wetter version of play dough.

What You’ll Need:

Mixture 1:

  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 2 cups Elmer’s Glue
  • Food coloring

Mixture 2:

  • 3 tsp. Borax
  • 1 cup Warm Water

*Stir mixture 1 together in 1 bowl and 2 in a separate bowl.

How To Do It:

  1. Mix bowl 1 and 2 together
  2. You won’t need to stir the mixture because it is the chemical reaction that actually makes the flubber.
  3. When it has formed a glob, work it for 2-3 minutes.
  4. It feels wet at first but it eventually dries up to the final product.

DIY Kids: Edible Paint for Food

by Heather on March 16, 2012

Kids are always wanting to play with their food so why not let them!  You can make a safe, edible paint and let them go wild.  Skip to my Lou has a great real quick and simple way to do this.

Grab some milk and food coloring, mix ‘em up and let the kids loose!  If you want a thicker paint try evaporated milk.

This is another pretty cool DIY for the Kids.  Grab all of thoe dried out markers and turn them into watercolor paints!  If you have washable markers then it will make washable paints!

Simply wrap like colors together with a rubber band and place ink side down into a jar/glass of water. This picture is using old baby food jars which appears to be the perfect size.
